A blistering blues band, The Twisters, is blazing into town and will ring in the new year, with Whitehorse locals (a most-appreciative audience) at the Yukon Convention Centre (YCC).
They’re capping off a successful year in celebrity style. The band, which is comprised of local musician Brandon Isaak as well as original founding member David Hoerl, professional drummer Matt Pease and rock-out stand-up bassist Keith Picot, has had a phenomenal year.
The Twisters is coming to give back to their community – to give the gift of Canadian blues. Staying true to their Northern roots, while touring, they have become famous throughout Whitehorse, not to mention Canada, for their unique blend of jumpin’ blues-swing songs.
On New Year’s Eve, they will be joined by Ed Isaak, an old hand at laying out show-stopping performances at the YCC.
The show revs up The Twisters’ cross-country tour, beginning with Whitehorse and leaping across Canada to perform in Ottawa and Toronto, then switching it up entirely with shows in Memphis and Germany. And don’t miss The Twisters as they perform at the prestigious Maple Blues Award with blues star David Gogo headlining the event.
The tours accompany the release of their most-recent CD, Come Out Swingin’. The CD and tours cement The Twisters as a jump-swing blues band to be reckoned with.
The band’s local successes have been noted by music giant CBC Radio 2 as its concert at the Yale Hotel has recently been added to its “Concerts in Demand” series streaming online.
Reaching CD-release No. 5 is a big moment for the band and demands are high for these Canadian classics. Acknowledging their strong musical talent and jump-up-and-dance music, The Twisters were recently nominated for European blues awards as well as achieving Canadian recognition.
With drums, harmonicas, stand-up bass and supreme song writing, the band is being hailed as a fresh voice in the world of jumping swing. As a young star, Brandon Isaak has been called an unquestionable superstar in the world of blues, and his youth and excitement collaborate with the seasoned expertise of his fellow bandmates.
Doors open Dec. 31, at 8 p.m., at the Yukon Convention Centre. Tickets are are available at the High Country and Gold Rush inns.
