Fit ‘n’ Healthy: PHAT Camp is Coming to Whitehorse

PHAT Camp is coming to Whitehorse! This camp is truly an amazing experience (for women, that is … sorry, guys).

For those of you who have been following my journey in What’s Up Yukon for the last five years, this is THE camp and THE lady who has given me the strength to change my life.

This will be the fifth PHAT camp that I will have attended. Four other times it was worth the thousands of dollars and time away from my family to travel out and visit a hundred other women for a weekend.

I believe we are extremely lucky to have Jen and her team agree to come to Whitehorse to help build our community.

Here’s an idea of what camp has looked like in the past: Based on numbers, you will be split into smaller groups of around 10. The idea is that you are there to motivate someone else, learn from someone else, feel for someone else, get inspiration from someone else.

So don’t be afraid if you don’t know everyone in your group, if someone in your group is outspoken or shy, if someone in your group is 100 pounds heavier or lighter than you, if someone in your group is 30 or 40 years older than you.

This is the idea: to learn and help others and realize that you are stronger than you think.

Yes, the workouts are hard. You will train each body part (five workouts) throughout the weekend. You will go through different types of cardio classes.

You will be pushed as hard as you’d like to be pushed, but nothing is expected of you other than getting out of the weekend what you came for.

There are also discussion groups on nutrition, self-esteem and, in the past, there has been an “Ask Jen Anything” portion where you write down questions on literally anything and she’ll answer them very honestly and openly.

If there are any women there who are interested in competing, there is usually a section for that, though not mandatory for everyone to stick around and listen to.

At the end of the weekend, you will be exhausted, you will be sore and you will be motivated to take the next step in your own journey, whatever that may be.

Here is a quote from another Whitehorse Phat camper’s experience:

“For me, PHAT Camp is one of those pivotal life experiences you never forget.

“My first camp was in 2008 in Edmonton, and it turned my life in a completely different direction. I was so nervous leading up to camp, and in the first hour I was wondering what the heck I had got myself into.

“Those thoughts went away almost immediately and I soon discovered that it was really just a supportive environment, and Jen was there to inspire me to do more than I ever thought I could on my own.

“I met women there who had been through some incredible life experiences from surviving cancer, beating drug addictions, to losing 50 pounds.

“These women persevered through their own life challenges, so why couldn’t I? I came out of that camp believing in myself, and that was such an incredible feeling, that it made up for the fact that every muscle in my body was sore for days!”

PHAT Camp will be held in Whitehorse Oct. 1 to 3. You can register or find out more on-line at www.getphatwithjen.com.

I really hope to see you there. You won’t regret taking advantage of this incredible experience.
