One of the perks of being a composer is being able to jam with friends.

On a trip last year to M

ontréal, Daniel Janke got in touch with an old friend, Jean-Pierre Zanella, who is well known in the Montréal jazz scene as a saxophonist, composer and arranger.

Zanella is coming to the Yukon to work on a project with Janke in his studio. While here, he will join The Daniel Janke Trio at the Yukon Arts Centre, Sunday, Feb. 1, as part of Jazz Yukon’s Jazz On The Wing series.

Janke, a composer of contemporary music, says, “As a musician, I’m a jazz guy.

“I like the challenge of it,” he says. He likes other genres of music, but with jazz, “you just keep growing with it.”

With Janke on piano, they will be joined by Ken Searcy on drums and Jon Heaton playing stand-up bass.

Tickets are available at the Yukon Arts Centre Box Office and Arts Underground.
