For 35 years the Frostbite Music Festival has been bringing bands to Whitehorse to showcase new music to an appreciative audience. Year after year organizers chose acts that were a combination of emerging talent breaking onto the music scene in a big way, as well as established musicians and unknowns.

Except not this year. They’re taking a break from the usual 3-day festival hosted mid-February. Losing this eclectic event is a loss for music loving Yukoners.

However, there are events filling the void – including events co-hosted by the Frostbite Music Society.

On Saturday, Feb. 15, Frostbite and the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous are hosting a free outdoor concert called Party on Main, which will feature Vancouver band The Matinee and two local bands. The party will take place at the Main and Front Streets, and will have activities for kids, including dog sled rides.

Frostbite didn’t forget about all the up-and-coming Yukon bands this year – they co-hosted the annual Battle of the Bands again with B.Y.T.E. at the Yukon College on Jan. 31.
