You don’t need to be creative to be fashionable. You just need to get inspired. The inspiration can come from anywhere, anyone, or anything.

For myself, one of my prominent fashion inspirations was time spent in a second-hand shop in the Okanagan (actual location is classified).

The clothing I found there was genuinely one-of-a-kind. Even better, it was mostly from past decades when printed fabrics and polyester were technologically advanced.

Once I made the leap from not just collecting the interesting clothing but actually wearing it, the response I received from other people gave me the impetus to continue my fashion journey.

People appreciate seeing fabrics and styles that used to be “in” when they were younger that are in style again, especially when it is genuine vintage. It passes along the creative energy and adds a bit of a time warp for extra interest.

This week I had a chance to interview someone who found her fashion inspiration from her partner.

Fashionista: Karen Pearson

Where did you get each item that you’re wearing?

KP: My wine colored leather jacket. My sister and I went shopping after we both got tatoos in Vancouver on 4th Avenue in a store called Mantique.

I fell in love with it at first sight and could not resist.

My tunic shirt is from a store called SPANK, also located on 4th in Vancouver.

The shirt is made by an awesome designer from Montreal, I think; I don’t know the brand.

My leggings are from American Eagle – great fit, great price and awesome to wear with so many things. Ordered them online.

My boots, I got from a Victoria’s Secret catalog. I call them Peter Pan boots. I love wearing them with leggings or skinny jeans.

My first layer – which you cannot see – is from Victoria’s Secret.

I know this is crazy, but it all has to flow together, so I always like to have colours that match or blend with my outerwear.

If you feel sexy underneath, no matter what you are wearing on top, you will look great!

Is there an interesting story to something that you are wearing?

KP: My husband has been my inspiration for my clothes. He picks out and buys lots of my clothes – he is a shopaholic too!

He found the shirt I am wearing and I tried it on and he loved it. Easy to twist my rubber arm when he loves what I am wearing.

If you could choose a theme song for your life what would it be?

KP: If you are happy and you know it, clap your hands!

What is the most important article of clothing in your wardrobe?

KP: My Timberland boots at the moment. My husband bought them for me last fall, when we first experienced the empty nest.

I saw them a year before but at that time could not find my size. He searched everywhere and final found them. They are beautiful and also hold a special place in my heart.

And I also love my leather jackets.
