It’s a Dog-Eat-Dog World

No one will pay your bills
But they’ll ask you for a dollar.
No one will buy your food
But they’ll bum you for a dollar.
No one will will pay your tax
But they’ll gyp you for a dollar.
No one will pay your rent
But they’ll cheat you for a dollar.
No one will pay for your hotel
But they’ll swindle your dollar.
No one will pay for your taxi
But they’ll steal your dollar
No one will pay your airfare
But they’ll collect your dollar.
No one will pay your visa
But they’ll borrow your dollar.
No one will buy my dog’s food
But they’ll beg for a dollar.
It’s a dog-eat-dog world
I need my dollar so that my dog will eat.

When We Were Hippies

We grew our hair long.
We wore bell bottoms.
We smoked dope.
We rolled cigarettes.
We drank with home brew.
We shaved with scissors.
We had lots of sex.
We were unemployed.
We lived in shacks.
We were broke.
We never followed “The Golden Rule”.
We never went to church.
We heard lots of cursing.
We were high school drop outs.
We listened to CCR on records.
We had an old cheap guitar.
We all had nicknames.
We stayed up all night.
We got around on our bicycles.
We called each other brothers and sisters.
We were scolded by our old ladies
But we knew about peace and love.
