BCST – Water stewardship and cultural values in the Yukon

Beringia Centre Science Talks (#BCST) are back for a fourth season! Join us as we explore fascinating topics in #archaeology#naturalscience, and #palaeontology.
This special edition Beringia Centre Science Talk in honour of World Water Day is presented in partnership with the Department of Environment, Water Resources.
Et’o Nyäk Tagé (McQuesten River) lies in the heart of many Northern Tutchone people as a cultural and ecological sanctuary. Besides that, the South McQuesten River watershed is rich in minerals, and it has attracted miners for over a century. The First Nation of Na-cho Nyäk Dun has initiated work to develop a Water and Wetlands Strategy. In 2023, the Yukon government has published a study to assess water quality and develop water quality objectives for Et’o Nyäk Tagé.
Speakers Amelie Janin and Dawna Hope will speak about these stewardship initiatives for Et’o Nyäk Tagé and how the intrinsic value of the river is incorporated. They’ll be joined by artist Esther Bordet, who will be live drawing the discussion.
This talk will be livestreamed on Facebook and on Zoom. Prefer watching on Zoom? Register for the talk here: https://us06web.zoom.us/…/401…/WN_dFWJMn5WScCylp47554h3g
