Bry Webb in Concert
A special evening with singer-songwriter, Bry Webb at the Yukon Cinema. All Ages. Doors at 8pm, show at 8:30pm
Bry Webb is best known as the singer and principal songwriter in the well-loved and legendary rock and roll band, The Constantines. During the band’s four-year hiatus from 2010-2014, Webb returned to his one time home of Guelph, Ontario, became a father, and wrote his first album, Provider, released in 2011 by Idée Fixe. The album has been called, “eerie, minimal and organic,” and features acoustic guitar, upright bass, and two steel guitars simultaneously, which has become the signature sound of Bry’s solo material.
In 2013, Bry released his second studio album, Free Will, through Idee Fixe Records. The album, while still sparse and quiet in spots, also brought together the musicians who would become Bry’s world-class backing band, The Providers: Rich Burnett (Justin Rutledge, Spencer Burton) on lap steel, Aaron Goldstein (City and Colour, Tom Wilson, Daniel Romano) on pedal steel, Tom Hammerton (Cuff The Duke, Odd Years) on piano/organ, Nathan Lawr (Minotaurs, Royal City, King Cobb Steelie) on drums, and Anna Ruddick (Andy Kim, Randy Bachman) on upright bass. Pop Matters wrote of Free Will, “It is, in the end, an album about connection, and so the sweet sparseness of these songs is both a ruse and a brilliant depiction of how an individual life, the one we tend to lead in youth, becomes the kind of life that fits in somewhere, with other people, family or not.”
Through touring festivals and clubs across Canada and the US in 2014, Bry Webb and The Providers became a tight, joyful, freewheeling rootsy folk-rock band, able to move seamlessly from soft, emotive acoustic arrangements to full-on jammed out rock and roll expositions, reminiscent of The Rolling Stones or The Grateful Dead. Their work together is celebrated on the 2015 LP release and concert film, Bry Webb and The Providers Live At Massey Hall.
Bry will be accompanied by Whitehorse’s own mercurial guitarist, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Jordy Walker.
Whitehorse singer-songwriter, Rob Dickson will open with song’s from his latest long-player: Portraits.
A song-writer and song-singer living in Yukon, Rob Dickson plays guitar, sings to get the melody to match.
