Stories from Around the Kitchen Table

Feb 9 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm MST

Three Generations of YFNs Women Talk Indigenous Politics, 1970s to the Future

February 14, 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the submission of Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow, a document written by the Yukon Indian People/Yukon Native Brotherhood and submitted to Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau in 1973. Its submission marks the beginning of land claims negotiations in the Yukon. Present throughout this and the last fifty years of Indigenous politics in the territory are Yukon First Nations mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties — women of the political movement, like Shirley Adamson (TKC), Dorothy Smith (RRDC), and Mary Maje (RRDC). Hear their stories of mothering, learning, sharing, translating, advocating, listening, remembering, leading, visiting, mobilizing and resisting throughout the last five decades. Their experiences will be put into conversation with two Yukon First Nations women of the next political generations, Jewel Davies (CTFN) and Lianne Charlie (LSCFN). Light refreshments will be provided.
