Sunday Worship

First Presbyterian Church of Skagway
Gathering, Growing, Going
What is a Church Core Value?
A value is something where we as a congregation focus our energy, money, time and thought. If the church tries to do it all, our focus becomes scattered, and we may become stretched too thin. Our core church values encompass our unique calling as a church body.
Core Values
Gathering as Broken Sinners, Growing as Redeemed Disciples
A common misunderstanding is to think “church people” are all “perfect people.” If we let this idea persist, there is no need to grow as disciples. The two pieces actively work in tension: you cannot have growing discipleship, if you lack awareness of the brokenness in your life. As we recognize and confess our brokenness, we encourage others to do the same and acknowledge we need a Savior. As long as we humbly gather as broken sinners, we will realize the redeeming work Jesus has done in our lives.
Life Changing Interactions
Since we have a Savior, it means that things that are lost can be found; those places that we were blind to before, we can see; where we were bound, we can be free. As we gather, our time together should foster growth, so life will be different as we go.
Open Doors (Working in and for the community)
Like the sanctuary doors, which open in and out, we realize that we need to follow the great commission: go out to make disciples and gather together to baptize and teach the growing disciples within.
Prayer
Without prayer, we cannot hear the Holy Spirit speaking and are left to our own broken instincts. The more we commit to Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the more we need to ask our Lord and Savior for direction (Lord) and listen for how he is calling us to Kingdom life (Savior). We do this both as a body and individually to converse with the Triune God.
Intergenerational
We feel called to create an atmosphere where we gather, grow, and go as one, big family together. Our place of identification starts with being a brother or sister in Christ. Our age, our gender, our abilities, our brokenness and other distinctions are all secondary to what Jesus has done for us, uniting us as the Children of God.
