Yukon Words Presents How We Got Through
In celebration of the Yukon Arts Centre’s 30th anniversary, Yukon Words presents How We Got Through, a day of lauding the strength and ingenuity of the human spirit.
Join Yukon word artists in a series of indoor workshops and outdoor readings, from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm on August 6. Bring your lunch and a chair for the outdoor readings. If conditions permit, there will be a campfire.
Three workshops will be led by established Yukon writers. They start at 11:00 am and run until 1:00 pm in the Yukon Arts Centre lobby with a limit of 12 participants for each session. Choose your writer session below:
CHRISTINA BROBBY – Lyric Prose
LORI FOX – Writing From Rage: The Personal Is Political
FIONA MCTAGGART – A Fantastic Escape
Workshop sessions will take place simultaneously, so you’ll only be able to attend one, but participants will have an opportunity in the afternoon to share short excerpts of the work they produce that day.
Workshops
3 workshops, 2 hours each.
Readings
Workshop participants and members of the public will gather around the fire at 1:00 pm for a brown bag lunch, and readings will begin at 1:30 pm. Each word artist will present for 15 minutes, with a 15-minute open mic for workshop participants.
We’ll end the day by the firepit, saying our farewells and wrapping up by 4:30 pm.
This is a low-tech kind of day—no mics, no tents, no lights—just humans being together on the grass under the sky.
All workshops and readings are free. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be available. (To-go mugs welcome!)
