I found this flock of grouse on the road. They were picking up freshly-laid coarse sand that had been put down for tire traction on hills. There were nine of them! When I stopped, four flew away, but after a few minutes, all of them came back.
When my hands started freezing, I decided to leave and the little buggers wouldn’t get off the road. As I inched through them with my truck, I could see them walk out from under my front bumper.
