Yukon voters will have an opportunity next week to hear the positions of the four local candidates in the May 2 federal election on arts-related issues.
An all-candidates’ forum on arts, culture and heritage, sponsored by ArtsNet, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 at the Old Fire Hall, beginning at 7 pm.
A similar forum took place in the same venue during the 2008 federal election.
The event will be divided into three parts, beginning with a series of questions submitted in advance to the candidates by the organizers.
These questions deal with the impact of the cultural sector on the Yukon economy, funding for “arms-length” cultural institutions such as the CBC, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and the Canada Council for the Arts, and support for the export of Canadian culture abroad.
The remainder of the evening will be taken up with written questions submitted by audience members, as well as questions from the floor.
The candidates are Larry Bagnell (Liberal), Ryan Leef (Conservative), John Streicker (Green) and Kevin Barr (NDP).
