What better way to ring in the New Year than a rockin’ dance party in beautiful Haines Junction?
Especially this year, when Junction Arts and Music (JAM) is delighted to present Ladies of the Canyon, from Montréal, Quebec.
The music scene in Montréal is bursting with fantastic musicians and great acts and the Ladies are no exception.
Formed in 2010, the group came together out of friendship and a mutual interest in song writing. Citing the Band, Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles as inspiration, the Ladies’ songs are well-crafted and fun, a catchy blend of country and pop. Multi-instrumentalists all, they mix delicate harmonies with a penchant to rock.
To hear the Ladies’ sound, check them out on YouTube.
A new sound system and acoustical improvements in the Grand Hall of the St. Elias Centre means the Ladies of the Canyon will sound their best in Haines Junction this year.
The event features an evening lunch catered by Kluane Kaffee, free champagne at midnight, free coat check and a cash bar.
Tickets are $80 and available at Well-Read Books, on JAM’s Facebook page, at the Village of Haines Junction municipal office and at Champagne and Aishihik First Nations Haines Junction office.
JAM is a not-for-profit society dedicated to the promotion of arts and music in Haines Junction. JAM aims to work in partnerships to make Haines Junction a destination for the arts. We hope to be a portal for the arts: providing infrastructure, coordination, outreach, marketing and regular programming. It is also important to JAM that Haines Junction youth are supported and nurtured to explore arts and music and that the community understands the importance of the arts to our quality of life and to our small town’s economy.
We’ve got an exciting start for 2013 planned. Yukon Gold Comics and Australian comic Mickey D. will entertain us on Friday, January 25th. We are also facilitating two comedic workshops on Saturday the 26th, hosted by Claire Ness.
February sees JAM presenting a Valentine’s Day dinner and show, catered by Kluane Kaffee. In March, we are pleased to bring the Yukon Women in Music concert and workshops to the Junction. E-mail [email protected] for details on these shows, upcoming events or to add your name to our e-mail list. You can also check us out on Facebook.
Joanne Thomas is the president of JAM.
