We needed to find a place to go for lunch that started with the letter “N”. Well, we needed look no further than the North Dragon Restaurant. We were able to park right outside and go in to check out their display.

The staff greeted us with smiles and friendly hellos. They pointed out the choices: wonton dumplings, deep fried ginger beef, ginger pork, chow mein, chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, boneless pork, vegetables, deep fried chicken, and, of course, spring rolls. It all looked so delicious.

The board on the wall behind the display listed the prices for one dish, two dishes or the three dish lunch special. We looked around and saw that the portions were generous and the rates, ranging between $14 and $23 are affordable.

What decided to sit in the back dining room and take a look at what else is available on the menu.

A very friendly young woman hurried to our table with menus and left us to look it over. The descriptions were detailed and the prices, again, were excellent. There are many dishes suitable for vegetarian diets and there is a whole section of spicier Cantonese dishes.

The prices, the delicious-looking dishes and the speed of the service drew us back to it. The waitress nodded her approval. She met us out front at the display table and explained the choices and ingredients enthusiastically.

My companion pointed to the chow mein, the vegetables and a spring roll. I chose the vegetables, a spring roll and, just to be different, the chicken fried rice. We carried the very full plates to our table in the back room.

Even though we were in the back, the clean windows let in enough of the sunshine and light from outside that we had no trouble admiring our choices before we picked up our forks and dove in. Delicious and very filling.

We decided to go with the theme and we both had green tea. A large teapot was delivered and set down between the two of us. We ate leisurely, respecting the food. And had great fun catching up on the latest news.

The staff and various family members settled in at a table near us and there was much chatter and laughter.

We had more tea and read each other’s fortunes, enjoying the resulting broken cookies, as well. It wasn’t until we were slowly collecting our things and preparing to leave, that I realized that, other than the staff, we were the only ones left in the restaurant. As we thanked the owners and family for the delightful experience and received smiles, nods and return invitations, I glanced at the restaurant hours and realized we had overstayed by more than a half hour. But we’d had no indication from the staff and friendly family. What great service!
