Conquering exotic culinary worlds is exhilarating, but the dispiriting lack of some foods can make home feel very far away, indeed.

For some people, a curious thing may happen once they relocate. They may develop a taste for things they wouldn’t have considered before. The local food will open myriad sensations.

But for others, it’s not like that. They miss food – and even just ingredients to make food –from their home country.

But with the new worldly selection of food at Andrea’s Fresh Market in Watson Lake people are more than happy to have a little taste from home.

I didn’t believe it at first because Andrea’s Fresh Market looks very simple and small from the street. But once I went into the store and checked it out for myself, I was really impressed, not just because it is bigger than it appears, but it also has a lot of products. There are products you couldn’t even imagine, including Mexican, Asian and Korean.

Everything is always fresh and they have all kinds of veggies, basic Items like laundry detergent, soap, baked beans, infant formula, gravy packets, tomato soup, and good quality meat.

Andrea’s is quite popular,  – judging by the many comments and reviews about it online. Here is a sample of some of the comments:

“When I came to Canada the food was one of the things I missed most for sure! And when they opened the fresh market I totally loved it!! But you could pass this market in the street and not even notice is there,” says Jorge Rodriguez from Mexico

“The products are great, but I’d like to be able to buy some wine with my fish and meat at the market, but the liquor laws probably have forced the market not to sell wine in the stores,”  says Ricardo Ortega from the Philippines.

“Prices are in line with the other groceries stores, the difference is the variety of products and the good quality of them,” says Lori Beachel from Watson Lake.

“I moved away from my hometown immediately after high school. The only things  I miss are my family and food, but the fresh market has lots of different Asian products and I love to go for chips and snacks,” says Pi Giu from China.

If you have the chance to go to Watson Lake and check out the products at Andrea’s, don’t miss the opportunity to look around and try something new.
