Standing outside in a parka in -35 isn’t anyone’s idea of a good time, never mind standing outside in a sequined bodysuit.

That’s why, this year, when Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous (YSR) hosts For the Love of Drag, it’s going to be a little more temperate for both the audience and the performers.

“The drag show that we had a couple years ago was in a tent,” said Felicia Bailey-Cash, coordinator for the event. “This year it’s in the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, so it will be a bit warmer for the queens getting dressed.”

Another upside to holding the event indoors, in the longhouse at the KDCC, is that capacity is greater there.

Bailey-Cash said there’s space for 250 people at the venue, though she added tickets are selling quickly. A month out from YSR, half of the VIP tickets available for the drag show were already sold.

The $50 price tag on VIP admission allows ticket-holders to arrive an hour early for seat selection, as well as pictures with the queens. All five performers for the evening (along with an emcee) are part of Vancouver-based Tuck Entertainment.

Gloria Hole, Jerri Lynn Spears, Jaylene Tyme, Mina Mercury and Kendall Gender are among those performing on Feb. 21.

VIP tickets, as well as general admission tickets ($35) can be purchased online at YukonRendezvous.com, or at the Rendezvous office (suite 900, 4230 4th Ave.).

Bailey-Cash said the show starts at 8 p.m. and runs for a couple hours, ending before midnight.

“It sounds like a full, fun drag show,” she said. “We’re really excited to have it come up this year.”
